jsyk: proton has a new inactive account policy.

I use proton for my shells and alts on neopets and other games, some of which I definitely have not logged into a while, so I'm glad I saw this. Figured some of you might want this memo if you're like me and don't use proton day-to-day.

We are announcing our new policy regarding the storage of data, that will be implemented on April 9, 2025. Under this policy, we reserve the right to delete all data associated with Proton Accounts on a Free plan that remain inactive for one year (12 consecutive months).

As you had a Proton Account on a Free plan before this policy change took place, we’re giving you an additional one-year grace period before it takes effect. That means you have until April 9 2026, or two years from now, to log in to your account to prevent data deletion.

To be considered active, you must simply log in to any Proton service on our web or mobile apps.

Fortunately it's almost two years to log in, but given how neopets in particular is about emails, definitely good to know.

While not a proton user, I should also add given advancements in email account security (that proton likely follows), if your email lapses, even if you re-create it, you will likely not receive password/email reset emails and the like from neopets, so be sure to keep those emails live.

Thanks for the reminder! I stopped using Proton ages ago because they kept banning me for having multiple accounts, so all those emails are probably gone now!
